ART for Peace & Justice
Mission: To utilize the arts to educate, enlighten and inspire people and thereby create a cultural shift toward peace and justice.
Art has been one of the most effective communication tools throughout the ages. Art has been both a reflection of where a society stood on many issues, but also used as an agent of change to move people from where they were in a myriad of directions.
The term “art” is most widely used to describe a particular type of production generated by human beings. The denotation art implies some degree of aesthetic value, however, there is no agreed-upon definition of art. The impetus for art is often called creativity.
Art appeals to all of the human emotions. It can arouse aesthetic or moral feelings and can be understood as a way of communicating these feelings. Art explores what is commonly termed as the human condition that is essentially what it is to be human. Effective art often brings about some new insight concerning the human condition either singly or en-mass. It is not always positive but can trigger an emotional response and thereby provide new insights.
The creative arts are often divided into more specific categories, such as visual arts (painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, decorative arts, plastic arts, photography), performing arts (music, dance, theater, cinema) or literature (poetry, prose).
